This Week In Rates

Mortgage rates moved slightly lower last week as bond markets reacted positively to easing geopolitical tension headlines tied to the U.S. and Iran.

Lower oil price expectations helped reduce inflation pressure, which supported bonds and improved rate pricing midweek.

Interestingly, Friday’s stronger-than-expected jobs report had little impact on rates. Markets remained more focused on inflation and global uncertainty than labor data alone.

Looking ahead, This week’s key focus will be inflation:

  • Tuesday: CPI (Consumer Price Index)

  • Wednesday: PPI (Producer Price Index)

Markets will be watching closely for signs that inflation pressure is either cooling or remaining sticky.
